(Ecofin Agency) - Azerbaijan’s state oil company, SOCAR, has announced that it is currently thinking of the possibility of constructing an oil terminal in Cotonou, Benin. This was declared during a visit by the Azerbaijani delegation led by the country’s Energy Minister Natig Aliyev to Burkina Faso and Benin in response to the call of the countries’ governments.
During the meetings, the sides discussed issues of a collaboration between SOCAR and the state oil company of Burkina Faso (SONABHY), joint projects, the supply of oil products to Burkina Faso, the construction of SOCAR’s terminal in the port of Cotonou in Benin as well as the execution of several other infrastructure projects, Trend news reports.
The Azerbaijani delegation also intends to hold meetings in the Cotonou with the minister of energy, water resources and mining, minister of finance, foreign minister, as well as the management of Benin’s state oil company SONACOP (Société Nationale de Commercialisation des Produits Pétroliers).
This visit is expected to allow the growing prospects of supplies of Azerbaijani oil and gas products to the West African markets, the execution of energy projects, reinforcing Azerbaijan’s political authority in the region and increasing SOCAR’s commercial activity.
