A Nigerian oil and gas workers union in the Urhobo region of Niger Delta, has confirmed an attack by a militant group on a pipeline operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), in the oil region.
This is coming after the Niger Delta Avengers, claimed responsibility for an attack on a Chevron pipeline last week.
“There was an attack. Although the pipeline was not in use at the time of attack, NPDC periodically makes use of it and it is a major carrier of their product from (oil mining lease) OML 34 to OML 65,” Lucky Sorue, chairman for oil and gas workers in the Urhobo region told Reuters.
The Greenland Justice Mandate group in a statement said that it had attacked the 32-inch Efurun-Otor line operated by the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC), a unit of NNPC.
The statement cautioned that the attacks will not end soon, as the group is resolute in achieving its aim of destroying all assets owned by the multinational oil corporation in the nation’s Niger Delta region.
“Like we said before now, the Niger Delta Greenland Justice Mandate is not opposed to a genuine dialogue between the federal government and real representatives of the various nations of our region. We are collecting names from the nations in the region, those who will sincerely and equitably represent our various peoples,” the statement added.
