(Ecofin Agency) - The Government of Senegal has again cut the price of fuel and other petroleum products, a statement from the Senegalese Ministry of Energy revealed.
According to the new prices, a litre of regular petrol was reduced from 795 CFA francs to 725 CFA francs while a litre of diesel now costs 640 CFA francs compared to the previous price of 690 CFA francs. This reduction, is also applicable to other petroleum products like Butane cooking gas.
However, the new prices has raised concerns amongst the Road Transport Workers Union. The secretary general of the Union, Gora Khouma stated that as at present, they have presented a strike notice which will take effect from the beginning of February, if their demand for more reduction is not met.
This is the second time the Government of the country is reducing the pump price of fuel since the start of the decline in the prices of crude oil in the global market. Transporters have been raising complaints that in spite of the severe drop in prices from over $100 a barrel to less than $30, the government has not reduced the price to their satisfaction, The Point News reports.
