(Ecofin Agency) - In Kenya, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC), in its recent review, reduced fuel pump prices for the next one month.
A litre of super petrol will reduce by 92 cents to Sh85.58 per litre in Nairobi, diesel by Sh2.18 to Sh65.70 while kerosene reduced by Sh2.53 to Sh42.15 per litre.
The drop has been as a result of enhanced import costs in the month of February compared to January as well as the lower prices in the global market.
“Taking into account of the weighted average cost of imported refined petroleum products, the changes in the maximum allowed pump prices are as follows; Super petrol reduces Sh0.92 per litre, diesel reduces by Sh2.18 and Kerosene by Ash 2.53 per litre. There has been resurgence in the price of crude oil in the international market, with the price currently at $40 per barrel. This will influence future pricing of petroleum products locally," Joseph Ng'ang'a, ERC Director General said.
According to Capital FM, in February, fuel prices reduced considerably. While diesel reduced by Sh8.82 per litre, super petrol dropped by Sh2.14 per litre and kerosene by Sh6.51.
“The commission wishes to assure the general public of continued commitment to the observance of fair competition and protection of the interest of both consumers and investors in the energy sector,” Ng'ang'a said.
