(Ecofin Agency) - The newly formed group, Niger Delta Avengers, have issued a two-week ultimatum to all the oil firms operating in the region to shut down operations and evacuate staffs or witness a bloody attack.
“The Niger Delta Avengers is giving two weeks ultimatum to all oil companies in our region to shut down and evacuates their staff. To international oil companies, this is just the beginning and you have not seen anything yet. We will make you suffer as you have made the people of the Niger Delta suffer over the years from environmental degradation and environment pollution,” the group said in a statement signed by spokesman Mudoch Agbinibo.
The group which is responsible for a series of attacks that have stopped major operations in Niger Delta, said that failure to obey by oil companies would result in bloody attacks that the Nigerian military would not be capable of stopping.
“If at the end of the ultimatum and you’re still operating. We will blow up all the locations. It will be bloody. So, just shut down your operations and leave,” it added.
Due to the activities of this group, Shell has been forced to withdraw its staff from its Eja OML 79 production facility.
Earlier this week, Nigerian officials revealed that Chevron had started withdrawing staff from its facilities after the attacks on its assets. Several facilities owned by the company, such as a platform and oil flow station, were attacked by militants last week, Oil Price reports.
Meanwhile on Thursday, the Avengers announced their plans to attack Chevron again as the company is attempting to renovate the damage caused by the attacks.
“We made it clear that no repair works should be done until our demands are fully met. There is a rumor that oil has been discovered in the North East. How will you feel if this new found oil is being managed by Niger Deltans. We are very sure the Niger Deltans won’t even have 2% oil bloc if oil is really found in the Northeast. If you don’t shut down we will shut your stations permanently for you,” the group’s spokesman commented.
