(Ecofin Agency) - The staffs of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), on Wednesday, shut down all activities across the country due to the reform by the Federal Government.
the staffs, which are under the protection of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), stated that the improvement is not recognized by them as they were not asked before the decisions were taken.
According to a union official, the staffs of the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), are also joining in the strike and were about closing gas supply to power plants. He noted that the NGC’s staffs’ action will extremely affect power supply throughout the country, particularly as almost all the power plants in the country will be forced to shut down.
The official added that current fuel scarcity issue in the country will increase as all the employees of NNPC and its affiliates at petroleum products depot across the country would stop work. “President Muhammed Buhari seems not to be aware of the magnitude of our action, if he is, he would have called for an urgent resolution of our grievances,” the official told Vanguard news.
