(Ecofin Agency) - In Gabon, the nine magistrates of the Constitutional Court who have until September 23, 2016 to give the verdict regarding the Presidential elections of last Aug 27th are currently reviewing appeals resulting from the re-election out outgoing president, Ali Bongo.
In the process, the review of votes of the Haut-Ogoué province where Bongo had 95% of votes is decisive and crucial. In the framework of the investigation, the ruling power will also submit its case which should include 297 minutes of Haut-Ogooué, and proof of alleged frauds by the opposing party in various localities. The evidence will be sent to the lawyers of Jean ping, who for their part, have 174 minutes. Each side will therefore know the weapons of its adversary.
A judge-rapporteur will hear both parties, prior to a highly awaited public audience, where the magistrate will present a decisive report for the next part of the procedure. The verdict should be given latest by September 23.
The procedure which is to last 15 days just started. Changes of turns are to be expected considering rivalry between both parties as each side accuses the other of falsifying the results.
The final decision thus comes to the nine judges of the constitutional court who are led by Marie Madeleine Mborantsuo.
