(Ecofin Agency) - The new Director General of Crédit Suissse, Ivorian Tidjane Thiam received over his first six months in position, $4.67 million, to which was added exceptional sum of $14.6 million, paid in shares to compensate what he would have received if he stayed at the head of insurer Prudential.
According to Swiss daily Le Temps, who compared annual reports of major Swiss companies, Tidjane Thiam is among the top 5 most paid bosses.
Thiam could improve his ranking given that in 2015, the company he now heads recorded a loss of about $3 billion, which caused his bonus for the semester to be below $3 million.
Leaving London for Zurich, in July 2015, Tidjane Thiam engaged in a quite challenging adventure. Since he came at the head of Crédit Suisse which was facing some difficulties, he initiated a complete restructuring of the bank resulting in the cut of 6,000 jobs. Since the beginning of the year, Crédit Suisse has lost a third of its market value. Now all eyes, analysts’ mostly, are on the Ivorian executive…
