(Ecofin Agency) - Ghana’s car manufacturer-Kantanka Automobile-plans to locally produce first electric cars by 2019. Test stage of electric car manufacturing successfully kicked off.
“About three years ago, we came out with the first prototype of electric cars. The following year, we developed it. We have three different modules of electric cars which have undergone tests and have passed,” said MD Francis Kudjordjie. The company is also targeting local commercialization, scheduled for the same period. “We have already been complaining about fuel price increases. With the electric cars coming in, we believe that it will cut down demand for fuel and move the nation forward,” Kudjordjie added. Moreover, he called on authorities to outline a policy to boost the manufacturing subsector.
