(Ecofin Agency) - At the end of the 2017/2018 cocoa campaign, Côte d’Ivoire’s cocoa producers generated CFA1,356 billion, Lambert Kouassi Konan (photo), president of the country’s cocoa-coffee council, announced during the national cocoa and chocolate day (Journées nationales du cacao et du chocolat -JNCC) held in Abidjan from September 28 to October 3.
Summarising the campaign, the official indicated that the cumulated cocoa purchases declared reached 1,938,436 tons against 1,977,770 tons during the 2016/2017 campaign.
For the 2018/2019 campaign, the farm gate price has been set to CFA750. In addition, the government introduced a 1.5% tax on the insurance and freight fees of each kilogram of cocoa bought by buyers. Let’s note that this tax had been canceled two seasons earlier to boost producers’ revenues.
