(Ecofin Agency) - The plan was recently approved by Beninese authorities allowing the two tech companies to distribute audiovisual content to their subscribers.
In Benin, telecom operator Moov Africa and internet service provider (ISP) Isocel have obtained the right to provide audiovisual content. Their approvals were awarded by the High Authority for Audiovisual and Communication (HAAC) following an agreement-signing ceremony held on June 21. "Through these agreements, these two companies will distribute audiovisual content to their subscribers," said Rémi Prosper Moretti, President of the HAAC.
Moov Africa and Isocel want to work together to provide an Internet TV service accessible from mobile terminals. According to Omar Nahili, CEO of Moov Africa, the collaboration will enable the operator's subscribers "to access audiovisual content from their phones at a derisory cost". He announced that numerous channels, including those of the local DTT platform, "will be included in the package” as recommended by the HAAC.
While other telecoms operators in Benin have opted for on-demand content, Moov Africa has chosen to bring traditional TV channels back to the Internet. For the moment, no further information has been given on the channels accessible and the costs of the service.
