(Ecofin Agency) - Kenyan Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) in its latest price review which will take effect from November 15 to December 14, 2016 increased the maximum retail prices of petrol, diesel and kerosene in the country.
According to the Agency, in Nairobi, super petrol will retail at Sh94.94 per litre, diesel at Sh82.17 per litre while kerosene will increase to Sh62.16 per litre. In Mombasa, a litre of super petrol will increase to Sh91.53, diesel at Sh78.79 and kerosene at Sh59.31. In Nakuru a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh95.70 while that of diesel will retail at Sh83.12 and kerosene will be sold at Sh63.04. Meanwhile in Eldoret a litre of super petrol will retail at Sh96.88, diesel at Sh84.30 and kerosene at Sh64.11, CapitalFM reports.
“The changes in this month's prices are a consequence of the average landed cost of imported super petrol increasing by 8.12 percent in May 2016, diesel increased by 0.05 percent and kerosene increased by 10.68 percent,” Joseph Ng'ang'a, ERC Director General, said in a statement.
He added that the product cost per litre of super petrol is at Sh40.64 while distribution and storage costs, margins, taxes and levies add to Sh54.30. “The purpose of the fuel pricing regulations is to cap the pump prices of the products which are already in the country, so that importation and other prudently incurred costs are recovered, while ensuring reasonable prices to consumers,” he explained.
