(Ecofin Agency) - Ghana is currently under threats from Nigeria to cut its supply of gas to the Aboadze Thermal Plant as a result of government’s failure in settling its debt to the Nigerian gas authorities.
The country recently announced getting 140 million standard cubic feet of gas from Nigeria through its West African Gas Pipeline (WAGP) network, which has immensely improved power supply in the country.
Ghana owes Nigeria about GHC 100 million, a source in the power sector told Sunnews.Meanwhile, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Volta River Authority Dr. Charles Wireku-Brobbey while speaking on recent developments in the power sector stated that regular power supply in the country is not relying on the incoming power barges from Turkey.“The problem for us is not the arrival or non-arrival of the power barges. As we speak the government owes Nigeria over GHC100million, which we are yet to settle, and that is the problem that should concern us,” he said.
