(Ecofin Agency) - In Tanzania, the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) just announced it had cut the retail prices of petrol by 3.91 percent but increased those of diesel while leaving kerosene’s unchanged, Reuters reports.
Data from EWURA’s recently published notice on cap prices for petroleum prices shows that in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s commercial capital, petrol’s maximum retail prices dropped to 2,004 shillings from 2,086 shillings; diesel hiked to 1,879 shillings from 1,828 shillings. As for the prices of kerosene (1,733 shillings per litre), “since there were no imports for the product in October 2015, its prices remain as were”, EWURA stated.
The same notice reveals that wholesale price for petrol plunged 4.12% from 1,981.02 shillings in October 2015, that for diesel increased by 2.95% (1,722.93 shillings in October 2015), and that for kerosene stayed the same as last month’s (1,627.92 shillings).
EWURA associates the various changes in prices for the products to the up-and-downs of oil prices worldwide and also to the fluctuations in the exchange rate of the US dollar to the Tanzania shilling.
In the country, the annual inflation rate is highly influenced by fuel prices. This rate was found at 6.3% in October.
