(Ecofin Agency) - Three days after public announcement by Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita for an efficient land management, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights revealed that a meeting concerning the issue was held between the Keeper of Seals, Mamadou Ismaïsla Konaté, and his colleague, the Minister of State Domains and Land Affairs, Mohamed Ali Bathily. The news was reported by Maliactu.net.
The ministers held “a work session on August 7, 2016 on the land management issue, presently the government’s main concern. At the meeting were present members of the ministers’ respective cabinets and various chiefs of the sector’s technical services. Department chiefs said it was urgent to establish an environment for concrete discussions and actions to better handle cases and procedures related to land litigations and disputes. After the meeting, the two ministers ordered the chiefs of their technical services to prepare joint visits on the sites where such issues have been reported. In this perspective, strict measures will be jointly implemented by the two departments in order to develop appropriate solutions to preserve cohesion and social peace,” the site said.
It should be recalled that Mali’s President said on Sept 14, 2016, on the public TV channel ORTM: “I think it’s time we have a proper land register. It is time also for the land management regulations, and land code to be reviewed and revised. A strict discipline should be in place in Mali’s land management. We can’t move forward without these”
