(Ecofin Agency) - On November 3, 2016, Siaka Minayaha Coulibaly, Director of Cabinet of Ivorian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, has revealed at the Africa Agri Forum the functions of the coming Rural Land Agency (AFOR) recently announced by President Ouattara after the referendum campaign that just ended in Cote d’Ivoire.
Expected to be operational in January 2017, the agency should help significantly simplify procedures for the issuance of land-related documents. “One cannot invest in a land if he or she can be evicted overnight. The land agency will help palliate to an institutional problem. The process will be simplified and intervention chains will be reduced. On the conceptual aspect, there has been a simplification as well, regarding the physical aspect of the land sector which had been appreciated and taken into account forgetting that it is linked to a social constraint,” he said.
This should help the law promote a better land management in Cote d’Ivoire.
