(Ecofin Agency) - Malian Company for Textile Development (CMDT) just announced that $42 million would be invested in its production chain. According to Commodafrica, this sum will be used to establish two new ginning units, totaling a capacity of 100,000 tons, and modernize three other similar units.
The new plants, which will start operating by 15 months, will be built by the French firm Géocoton. The investment is part of CMDT’s new policy which aims to bring output to 800,000 tons (against 650,000 tons forecast for the season) and to have a processing capacity fitting this target.
To achieve this target, CMDT obtained part of the funding from the West African Development Bank, €22.9 million.
