(Ecofin Agency) - The next Rwandan presidential and legislative elections will be held on July 15, 2024. The leader of the Rwandan Patriotic Front since 1998 is standing for a fourth term.
Rwanda's President Paul Kagame (pictured) has conducted a cabinet reshuffle, Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente announced on June 12, 2024. This move comes just weeks before the country’s presidential and legislative elections on July 15, 2024. Kagame, the leader of the Rwandan Patriotic Front since 1998, is running for a fourth term.
Yusuf Murangwa, previously the Director General of the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR), has been appointed as the new Minister of Finance and Economic Planning. Olivier Nduhungirehe, formerly Rwanda's ambassador to the Netherlands, is now the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, succeeding Vincent Biruta, who has been reassigned as Minister of Interior.
Jeanne d'Arc Mujawamariya, the former Minister of Environment, is now the Minister of Public Service and Labor. Valentine Uwamariya, who was the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion, takes over the Environment portfolio.
Other significant appointments include new heads for the positions of Prosecutor General and Commissioner General of the Rwanda Revenue Authority. Alfred Gasana, the former Minister of Interior, has been nominated as Rwanda's ambassador to the Netherlands.
This cabinet reshuffle is part of the political landscape adjustment as Rwanda prepares for its upcoming elections, in which President Kagame is seeking to extend his leadership.
