(Ecofin Agency) - Start Network, a global network of forty national and international humanitarian organizations, announces that it will set an insurance policy to cover drought-related risks in Senegal.
Based on indicators such as rainfall, Start Network will warn of the occurrence of natural disasters to allow early responses which will mitigate the damages.
Thanks to this mechanism, humanitarian organizations can quickly raise funds to save and compensate the victims during the drought, not after.
"This policy will allow farmers and their families to protect their livestock and valuables before the drought’s most devastating part are felt. Start Network can help more than 200,000 people thanks to the cash compensations and the implementation of nutrition and agriculture projects", one of Start Network’s managers explained.
