(Ecofin Agency) - Burkina Faso's shea nut producers and sellers now know the price they will receive for their products. According to Sidwaya, the Association of exporters of sesame and other oilseed products of Burkina Faso (GESB) announced that producers would sell their nuts at a minimum of FCfa140/kg while sellers would be given the opportunity to retail at FCfa150/kg.
This announcement comes in the run-up to the launch of the national shea marketing year. Though the export price remains unknown, it is worth noting that Burkina Faso has recently established a long term goal for this sector through the creation of a sustainable strategic development plan for shea nut.
The 4th export crop of the country, shea nut generates FCfa 20 billion in revenue and 400,000 jobs for women in Burkina Faso.
