(Ecofin Agency) - In the southern part of Senegal, people of Kolda still blame the municipal authorities of Saré Bidji for taking lands situated in Saré Bidji communal perimeter from 600 of them.
As reported by information website Xibaruu, “the township is depriving the people of orchards and farms. These families can’t just sit there and let that happen”.
The expropriated’s anger is most understandable since the lands concerned here agricultural lands, which they live on. It is their only source of revenue. “These properties have been used by our people for years. They derive most of their revenues from farming. How can we accept that the city hall just gets up and strips us from these and lose what we have invested for all these years,” said one of the victims.
The expropriated will now plead with the government to get back their properties.
