(Ecofin Agency) - The North-West area of Côte d’Ivoire will soon welcome two cashew processing units.
According to AIP which cites Konaté Vassiliki, CEO of UTEXI-COTIVO, this infrastructure which will be located in Karabiri and Seguelon will help in addressing unemployment problems in this part of the country.
According to the manager, the establishment of these units in the Kabadougou region will work in furthering the impact of this crop on the local economy. Indeed, the North-West part of Côte d’Ivoire produces a lot of cashew but barely anything is processed there, therefore losing a major part of the added value of this product. Thanks to these plants, 1,000 jobs will be created, AIP continues.
For recall, the Ivorian ministry of Agriculture recently said that the country has now taken the top world spot for production of cashew, beating India. If this declaration is splitting the small world of cashew specialists, no one could however challenge its spot for cashew in Africa. Indeed, Côte d’Ivoire raised itself to the top spot in Africa thanks to the spectacular progress of its production over the last ten years.
