(Ecofin Agency) - Tanzania signed an agreement with China’s Kanton Investment Company, whereby the company will set a cassava processing plant in Handeni district (Tanga Region). According to the Tanzanian Investment Centre (TIC), the $10 million facility will daily handle 200 tons of cassava, Daily News reports. CEO John Rwehumbiza pointed out that the project also aims to build grower’s capacity through a training on modern agricultural methods. In January last year, Tanzania entered a $1-billion partnership agreement with the Chinese Epoch Agriculture for cassava commercialization and processing. The country which is in the top 10 Africa’s largest manioc suppliers, produces about 5.4 million tons of the starch per annum.
