(Ecofin Agency) - Benin’s government has adopted a new implementation mechanism of the project to support agricultural mutual insurance in the country (PA-AMAB), at the end of the council of ministers last Jan. 24.
This initiative, launched by the West African Development Bank (BOAD) after the 2008 global food crisis, was adopted by Benin in 2015.
Its goal is to “reduce the vulnerability of cotton and rice producers by providing them insurance products covering production phase which is still not taken into account”, indicated the government in a statement.
Regarding impacts, the project is expecting to reach nearly 350,000 cotton producers and 1,000 rice producers.
Let it be recalled that the agricultural mutual insurance of Benin (AMAB) was created in 2007 by farmers from twelve communes in the country.
