(Ecofin Agency) - Kenya’s government will partially lift the ban imposed since last Feb. 24 on the exploitation of community and public forests.
According to the ministry of environment and forestry, instead of the total ban on forest clearing, the government now authorize logging and harvesting subject to confirmation and verification of source and origin.
This decision is a relief for large tea plantations (40% of total tea yield) that use firewood for the drying process.
Let’s recall that Kenya which is the world's largest tea exporter, produced 439,000 tons of the leaf and collected about KSh1.3 billion as exports revenues in 2017.
