(Ecofin Agency) - In Tunisia, revenues from date exports reached TND402.4 million ($168 million) on March 15, 2018, for the 2017-18 season. The information was given yesterday March 19, by the minister of agriculture, water resources, and fishery. This represents an increase by 22.2% compared to the revenues by the same period during the previous season.
The country achieved this feat thanks to an increase in the exports which rose from 61, 487 tons to 66, 116 tons (+7.52%). This figure includes 5, 099.1 tons of organic dates.
The main destinations that recorded a boom in their imports are Australia (+ 60%), Qatar (+47.4), India (+ 45%) and Canada (+ 30%). Meanwhile, exports to more traditional markets such as Morocco, Italy, France and Indonesia remained stable compared to the last season.
For the record, Tunisian authorities expect 305, 521 tons of dates to be produced by the end of the current 2017-18 campaign.
