(Ecofin Agency) - In Guinea, a food industry complex will be built in Timbi Madina in the Pita prefecture. The infrastructure, which construction works were launched by President Alpha Condé, will enable the processing of cassava and potatoes. Of a total cost of USD 14 million, it will be entirely financed by the Guinean government.
Its establishment in Fouta-Djalon meets the need to bring closer to the main production area of the starchy food in the country. This presence also comes as proof of the change of direction announced by Alpha Condé a few months ago when the country was battling against the Ebola epidemic. Complaining then about the attitude of Senegal who had closed its borders to the agricultural production of areas such as Timbi Madina and Mali, the leader thus declared: “We will process here in the country our potatoes into chips and purée. We will not export anything anymore. Whether potatoes, fruits vegetables.”
The complex which will start operations by 2018 should have a daily processing capacity of 4,000 tons of starch.
