(Ecofin Agency) - The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has organized on August 10th and 11th in Bouna, in the North Eastern part of Ivory Coast, a workshop on rural land tenue in the country, Agence ivoirienne de Presse (AIP) reported.
Co-held with the UNESCO and the Ivoirian ministry of agriculture and rural development, the workshop was financed by the United Nations Peacebuilding Fund.
Acccording to the AIP, the topic discussed during the meeting was “the restitution of the pilot scheme for proximity communication in the framework of communication strategy for land tenure". "It took place in the presence of many local chiefs, religious leaders, groups of farmers and members of the civic society,” the media added.
On the occasion, FAO’s representative, Dr. Souleymane Fadiga, recalled that the institution is still committed to, in collaboration with Ivoirian authorities, effectively improve land tenure in rural areas, as this is important for investment and sustainable peace. “FAO remains committed to helping you manage in a sustainable manner your natural resources, that include land, water, air, climate and genetic resources,” he said.
Amongst suggestions made during the workshop, there is that regarding the greater involvement of community radios in the sensitization of targeted populations. “We wish for all proximity or community radios operating in the area to get more involved to reach a maximum of rural people, informing them about land tenure, through continuous sensitization,” said Dah Toussaint, reporting the first session of the workshop.
