(Ecofin Agency) - The Senegalese Women Council (COSEF) has organized in Djémbéring, 60km from Ziguinchor, a training session for 120 women elected or president of the group for women’s promotion, on the topic of land planning and land access, APS reports.
The session at which were also present local officials and decentralization experts is to help empower women using rural lands. “The goal here is to increase women’s involvement in local governance, in the establishment of local policies and become real stakeholders of the industry. Women have shown that they are resolved to be recognized in the process to plan and review local policies at the level of municipalities and departmental councils which are the main decision-making organs,” explained Mame Bousso Samb Diack who coordinates the “Renforcement des capacities des femmes en leadership dans la gouvernance locale” (Reinforcing Women’s Leadership Ability in Local Governance) at COSEF.
In the meantime, the Vice Mayor of Djémbéring, Ibrahima Diagne, said: “Since the first training session on land, we have recorded a higher number requests from women desiring to possess land for farming or housing purposes. We have already processed 32 of these requests and they are more in the pipeline”
