(Ecofin Agency) - Ethiopia is currently experiencing the worst drought of the last 30 years. According to the United Nations Organisation (UN), this climate disturbance is linked to the El Nino phenomenon which decreased the level of summer rain which represent 80 to 85% of the country’s pluviometry.
The organisation, who wants to draw the attention of the international community on the risks inherent to the current situation indicated that donors where reacting rather well to its demands for funding to prevent the worst from occurring. However, these donations are still insufficient compared to the needs to generate an efficient response to the problem. On its part, the government invited the donors and different organisations fighting against the drought to put in place an efficient food supply system during the coming months.
Second most populated country in Africa after Nigeria, Ethiopia, who is currently experiencing an economic miracle, is remembered worldwide for a terrible famine which affected the country in 1984-1985.
