(Ecofin Agency) - Israël, Italy and Senegal will launch a project from next January developing 70 agricultural sites located in the regions of Diourbel, Fatick and Thiès. At the end, the initiative should occupy some 4,000 Senegalese farmers, according to Paul Hirshson, Israëli representative to Senegal.
“Work will start on the first of January. We have five months to finalise the choice of companies which will intervene on the 70 sites” he declared without giving more details on the timetable of the project. The same silence concerns the cost of the investment accorded for this initiative even if one knows that it will amount to “several millions of dollars”.
It is noted that Israël is strengthening its presence in West African agriculture, notably in countries such as Côte d’Ivoire, thanks to public initiatives or actions of companies like Dekel Oil (subsidiary of the Rina Group) or LR Group.
