(Ecofin Agency) - Dutch group Heineken, second largest brewer in the world, will inject CFA20 billion in Côte d’Ivoire by the end of the year. This sum will serve to double the output of its Ivorian subsidiary Brassivoire which currently has a production capacity of 1.6 million hectoliters of beer a year. The announcement was made yesterday by Brassivoire’s managing director, Alexander Koch.
The decision to expand production capacity should enable the firm tap into Ivory Coast’s potential as the country’s consumption is actually booming standing at 2.7 million hectoliters of beer per year. It will also enable the brewer position itself in the Ivorian market which is dominated by Société de limonaderies et brasseries d’Afrique (Solibra), subsdiary of French group Castel.
Let’s recall that Brassivoire was established last April in the Anyama industrial area, 24km north of Abidjan, for an investment of about CFA100 billion.
The company produces the following brands of beer: Desperados, Maltina, Ivoire and Heineken. Heineken group holds a 51% stake in the firm and the remaining 49% are held by CFAO.
