(Ecofin Agency) - In Mozambique, fourteen national and International companies have submitted bids for the development of industrial projects that make use of liquefied natural gas in the country.
The tender to select companies interested in the design, development and investment in projects for the use of liquefied gas in initiatives like power generation and the production of fertilizers and liquid fuel for local consumption, was launched on August 26, 2016.
According to the Ministry of Mining Resources and Energy, proposals had been received from companies like Mitsui, Engro Fertilizer, Shell Mozambique BV, Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM), Yara International, Marubeni, Gal-Africa Energy, Muinvest, Auto Gas, Epsilon, Jiangsu Sinochem Construction Co. Ltd., Union-JNC-JSPDI-VBC-SALT consortium, Gas Nosu and Motse, SA.
The Ministry added that the tender is planned to make local use of natural resources of which Mozambique has abundant reserves, and contribute to meeting the needs of the domestic market in certain services and consumer goods, thereby replacing imports.
Anadarko Petroleum and Eni found deposits of over 180 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in prospecting blocks in the Rovuma basin in northern Mozambique. This deposits, when under exploration, can transform Mozambique to one of the largest gas producers in the world, Macauhub reports.
