In Morocco, SMS notifications will be sent to curb land spoliation

Thursday, 11 May 2017 20:00

In Morocco, starting from May 22, land owners will be notified via SMS of any operation related to their land title. The government thus decided to leverage on digital to end land spoliation in the country, announced the taskforce formed to draw urgent and efficient measures to deal with the phenomenon, at the end of a recent meeting.

Entitled "Achkhbar titre" (which means ‘what’s up with my land title ?’), the app which will perform the announced feat was developed by the Land Conservation office, member of the land spoliation taskforce along with various magistrates and the ministries of justice and interior. “The land owner will get an SMS when a transaction related to his or her deed takes places. These include sales, mortgages, seizures, request for registration…,” reported newspaper L’Economite.

It should be recalled that the Head of the National land conservation office, Karim Tajmouati, had previously disclosed that 120 million land titles have so far been dematerialized with 200 million more to follow in 2018. This should facilitate the new operation which aims to improve land management in the country in line with King Mohammed VI’s wish.
