Nigeria: Avengers issue seven days ultimatum for FG to ask IOCs to evacuate from the region

Thursday, 10 November 2016 14:42

(Ecofin Agency) - The Niger Delta Avengers have issued a seven days ultimatum for the Federal Government as well as the Nigerian union of petroleum and Natural gas workers (NUPENG) to ask all international oil companies operating in the region to evacuate or face untold calamities on staff and on oil&gas facilities.

According to a statement signed by General Edmos Ayayeibo, Spokesperson for Adaka boro Avengers, the failure by the government to comply will lead the group to go on rampage with all NUPENG workers and all oil installations, Vanguard news reports.

“This time around we shall leave no stone unturned. We want all Nigerians to know how we will surprise the President of the Nigeria union of petroleum and Natural gas worker’s (NUPENG) Mr Igwe Achese on how he wants to cause crisis in the Niger Delta region. This is a sound warning to all multinational oil companies operating in region for their own interest for now, until matters are resolved in the region. Failure to adhere to this warning we will go on rampage for the total destruction of workers and oil installations they will have their selves to be blamed,” he said.

Since the start of the year, more than a few militant groups have attacked oil facilities, reducing the nation’s output and affecting revenues. These militants are demanding a greater share of the nation’s oil wealth for local residents as well as political independence for the region.

Last week, Niger Delta leaders met with President, Muhammadu Buhari, demanding allocation of oil blocks and contracts to local companies from the region as conditions to ending the attacks militancy in the region.
