(Ecofin Agency) - Angolese dairy company Lacticínios de Angola (Lactiangol) struggles to develop as it faces difficulties accessing foreign currency. According the firm’s president, Lactiangol’s production could drop to 3.5 million litres from 5 million litres.
The crisis is more severe for dairy products. Truly, production of yogurt for example has fallen 50%. The current situation arises as the company presently meets only 10% of national demand by distribution chains, supermarkets, restaurants, small shops and others.
In the case whereby the difficulties accessing foreign currency were to persist, the company’s ambitious development plan could very well be compromised. Indeed, Macauhub says the firm has already injected $14 million out of $19 million to modernize its equipment; this in order to double production capacity by 2017.
