Générale des Carrières et des Mines (Gécamines SA) signed, on 21 June, a framework-agreement of strategic cooperation with China Nonferrous Metal Mining Co. Ltd (CNMC), a Chinese company headquartered in Beijing.
The signing of this agreement comes as part of the development of mining projects of the DR Congo national company and would help define the principles of the future cooperation between the stakeholders of five major mining projects.
The projects in question are listed in the three groups of Gécamines SA which are Lubumbashi (SOUTH Group), Likasi (CENTRE Group) and Kolwezi (WEST Group) which focus on exploration, prospection and mining research.
Gécamines and the Chinese group have taken the commitment to “jointly manage the different projects to their successful completion, while respecting mutual interests”. The China Nonferrous Metals Company Ltd group, previously Sungreen International Holdings Ltd, is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Its activities are centered on non ferrous metals including lead and zinc.
