(Ecofin Agency) - As part of a workshop launched on August 25, 2016 in Anosy, in the South-eastern part of Madagascar, technicians from the General Directorate of land services are offering a training session of procedures related to land for Malagasy lawyers. About a hundred members of Madagascar’s Lawyers Order working in the Analamanga region are taking part to the session.
According to a statement relayed by Newsmada, the session aims to “promote the exchange of land practices, thereby satisfying their owners, participating to Madagascar’s development” and helping local litigants.
Due to their positions, lawyers are at the heart of legal procedures associated to land conflicts and expropriation; they must therefore be up-to-date regarding legislation and administrative measures that favor the reinforcement of land security. “Though lawyers will also be there to solve issues, many people don’t know their rights and end up losing them,” the instructors explained.
The training session is part of the government’s efforts to develop a land reform which will lead to the issuance of more than 10,000 land titles before the end of this year. Meanwhile, land transfers resulting from owner’s death will be processed freely.
