(Ecofin Agency) - In Egypt, two years after implementing the new constitution which grants Nubians the righ to return to the lands they had been evicted from, the givernment has decided to use large portions of these lands to implement a development project and build military zones. However, the ethnic minority has decided to oppose this decision.
As reported by New Jersey Herald, hundreds of Nubians blocked the main road passing through the south of the country and connecting Aswan to archelogic site Abu Simbel.
Determined to get back the lands which they claim as their ancestral lands, protesters were pushed back by the police who denied them access to the properties.
It should be recalled that Nubians have been expulsed on four occasions throughout the 20th century, the last time being in 1964 as Aswan giant dam was being built.
