(Ecofin Agency) - Following the rescue of a migrant woman and the recovery of two dead bodies at sea, Spanish NGO Proactiva Open Arms, announced it will take legal action against parties responsible for non-assistance to persons in danger and manslaughter.
“We are outraged, we denounce once again policies in the Central Mediterranean, not only by one government but by several. We encounter enormous difficulties to save just one life,” said NGO head Oscar Camps, during a press conference July 22.
The NGO's complaint primarily targets the captain of the Triad, a Panamanian-flagged cargo ship that first spotted the migrants without rescuing them. It also targets “the captain of the Libyan Coast Guard patrol vessel and any person who may have participated in the events by act or omission”.
