(Ecofin Agency) - An arrest warrant has been issued against Moïse Katumbi, former governor of Katanga and main opponent of Joseph Kabila in the presidential election, for “hiring mercenaries”, said Congo’s Minister of Information, Lambert Mende, interviewed by French newspaper Le Monde.
“Mr Katumbi’s movements will depend of the court, but what is sure is that he presently no more has all freedom. He cannot travel, or get out of the country without the court’s approval. The American system has already killed Lumumba. Their threats no more scares us,” the minister said in regards to complaints from the US embassy in Kinshasa.
Extremely popular in Katanga and a major part of the country, Moïse Katumbi who left the presidential party, disagreeing with the motion that want to see President Kabila remain in power.
