(Ecofin Agency) - Organized by the Alliance Pour Refonder la Gouvernance en Afrique (ARGA), a structure based in Dakar (Senegal), a reflection workshop on migration-induced land challenges took place on December 15 in Korhogo, in the Northern part of Cote d’Ivoire. This was reported by l’Agence Ivoirienne de Presse.
Regrouping about 50 academics and experts of migration, the workshop aimed to determine issues faced by migrants in regards to access to lands and its use. The session’s objective was also to find adequate solutions to these issues.
“The experts, mainly researchers and national, but also foreign, consultants, will try to analyze the various forms of migration, then propose solutions to the conflicts that result from the phenomenon, as according to the event’s organizers, the land issue is one of the main reason behind Cote d’Ivoire’s sociopolitical instability,” AIP said.
In order to protect and secure its lands, the Ivorian government recently introduced in the constitution measures to prevent foreigners from acquiring agricultural lands in the country.
