(Ecofin Agency) - In Mauritius, many executives just had their mailboxes hacked. Among those affected is Mauritius Telecom’s director general, Sherry Singh. Mauritian newspaper l’express who made the announcement indicates that the company found out the break-in on April 1, 2016. The hackers took over Sherry Singh’s email. Various mails were hence sent to his employees.
A mail was later sent employees telling them to check the origin of the mails received. What is left to know is if hackers also mailed people external to the company.
Mauritius is one of Africa’s nations to most suffer from hacking. In 2012, the country topped Symantec’s report on threat to internet security.
Hackers proceed via fraudulent mails, spams, phishing. Impersonation is a current phenomenon in such cases.
