(Ecofin Agency) - As the political crisis continues in Gabon, the second deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Séraphin Moundounga resigned.
“I feared that Gabon would tumble in violence if results were released without a recount and a review of each voting station’s report. Since this didn’t happen, the country was engulfed in violence and it continues even now,” Moundounga said explaining his decision.
The official believes that the country’s peace and security are threatened and in response to his concern he was told that “Gabon’s electoral legislation does not allow for a recount”. The minister also quit President Bongo’s party, the PDG.
According to website Gabon Review, in Gabon, the organic law of the Constitutional Court allows the Minister of Justice to cancel an election.
