(Ecofin Agency) - In 2015, Senegal’s agricultural output should be around 5 million tons, according to a provisional report of the joint review of agricultural sector (RCSA) issued by Senegal’s Office for Analysis, Prevention and Agricultural.
The report highlights that fruits and vegetables were the most productive in 2015 with 1,133,430 tons, ahead of groundnut whose output was 1,050,042 tons. These are followed by rice (906,348 tons), onions (367,500 tons) and sweet potatoes (52,230 tons).
In regards to goals set by authorities at the beginning of the year, the document indicates that “targets set for groundnut and onions in Senegal’s programme for rapid growth of agriculture (PRACAS) have been surpassed in 2015. For other products however, the goals were not met, but there was significant progress compared to 2014”.
Besides agricultural output, the report also said agricultural exports in 2015 generated about FCFA350 billion for Senegal.
