(Ecofin Agency) - The Western Cape Province in South Africa just approved an aid scheme which aims to help farmers whose activities are being hampered by the current drought. According to economy district minister, Alan Winde, this decision will benefit the most affected regions that could lose up to 60% of their yield.
This emergency aid is a direct measure which will precede any similar decision to be taken at the national level. It includes mainly cereals farmers who are to receive a maximum of R6, 500 each month over the next six months. The program should allow them to insure food security while sustaining them in the agricultural industry.
The scheme also plans for support for farmers who have troubles paying wages. Truly, per month, each employee is to receive a sum of R1, 824 under budget, reveals Fin 24.
