“If you want to go fast, you move alone, but it you want to go far, you have to go with others.” It was in those terms that Amadou Moustapha Djibo, president of the National Breeders Trade Union of Senegal (Union Nationale Interprofessionnelle des Semences du Sénégal - UNIS) explained the decision of different rival factions of the national breeding sector to gather in this association.
For the Senegalese breeders, the target is to present a unique counterparty to the government for all issues relating to this sub-sector. This experiment is not the first of its kind as between 1999 and 2003, this organisation played the same role with tangible results, for example an increase in the breeding capital to reach 34,000 tons.
“This is the time for big groups. We have understood it” Amadou Djigo continued, while indicating that the objective of the trade association was to boost the production level in order to make the Senegalese seeds a must on the regional market.
