(Ecofin Agency) - On October 13, 2015, a group of cocoa producers including Gics Enugma and Ugicam, from Nkoétyé which is about 10 Km from Cameroon’s Southern regional capital, sold 60 tons of cocoa for 90 million FCFA, the Mutations daily reports. This feat arose from a grouped sale organized by National Cocoa and Coffee Board (ONCC).
Michael Ndoping Managing Director ONCC said grouped sales aside boosting producers negotiation power, push them to respect “appropriate practices in terms of fermentation, drying and conditioning of product” ; things that lead to a better price when comes the time for sale.
To promote grouped sales, the Cocoa and Coffee Interprofessional Council (CCIC) put in place, a program named “Supporting organized commercialization” (AOC in French). With this program, producers are encouraged to create departmental and even regional groups which are trained to statistics drawing, organizing periodic markets, etc.
