(Ecofin Agency) - In Angola, Ministry of Agriculture just announced logs production was 125,000 Mt in 2015. According to officials, the wood industry, which has one of the most promising potentials for export, should have better results in the coming years.
Truly, production should increase by 105,000 Mt by 2017. The government plans to replace the current legislation on forest and wild fauna by another that will ban illegal wood exploitation and export. “The legislation will help us conserve our resources and invest more in local production,” said Minister of Agriculture, Afonso Pedro Canga.
The new strategy that Angola opted for can be explained by the fact that the oil crisis that Africa’s top oil producers currently suffer. The country intend to diversify their sources of revenues thus bets on agriculture to achieve this goal.
