(Ecofin Agency) - In Egypt, coffee market recorded a whopping increase during the first three months this year. According to a report from the Cairo Chamber of commerce, the country consumed 45,000 tons of beans during the period under review, far beyond the 40,000 tons in the whole of 2017.
Hussein Fawzy, head of the organization’s coffee division, said coffee import also grew 10% over the period, Ahram Online reported.
The official also indicated that Indonesia is the country’s main coffee supplier, accounting for 70% of total import due to affordable price and quality of beans.
Let’s remind that the Egyptian coffee market is dominated by Nestlé Egypt, subsidiary of Swiss group Nestlé. The latter signed in January 2017 an agreement to acquire Caravan Marketing Company, leading company in instant coffee and owner of Bonjorno brand.
